Section Violin (Per Service, Tenure Track)

Per-service, tenure-track Section Violin position with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Live audition March 29, 2027 in Norfolk, Virginia; application deadline March 8, 2027. The VSO performs a 36-week season including classical, pops, family, ballet and opera repertoire. Audition repertoire: the exposition of a standard romantic concerto of the candidate's choice, plus orchestral excerpts from Beethoven Symphony No. 9 (Mvt. 3, m. 99-114), Brahms Symphony No. 4 (Mvt. 2 and Mvt. 3), Debussy La Mer (Mvt. 2), Mendelssohn A Midsummer Night's Dream Scherzo, Mozart Symphony No. 39 (Mvts. 2 and 4), Schumann Symphony No. 2 (Mvt. 2) and R. Strauss Don Juan. The orchestra tunes to A = 441 Hz. The VSO discourages iPad use during auditions except under strict conditions (no recording, airplane mode and Do Not Disturb on, all background apps closed); all other electronic devices are prohibited.
