Principal Viola (1-Year)

One-year Principal Viola contract with the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Live audition September 11 & 12, 2026 in Norfolk, Virginia; deadline for receipt of materials August 21, 2026. 2026-27 salary $47,716.20 plus $475.00 Electronic Media Guarantee and $1,468.08 optional community engagement, for total compensation of $49,659.28. The VSO performs a 36-week season including classical, pops, family, ballet and opera repertoire. The position receives 7.194% AFM pension, paid leave, health benefits and instrument insurance, and is scheduled to begin November 1, 2026. Non-citizens must have US work authorization. A $100.00 deposit check payable to the Virginia Symphony Orchestra must be mailed by August 21, 2026 (cancellation with refund by August 28, 2026). The committee reserves the right to award the same candidate the 1-year Principal contract for 2026-27 and a tenure-track Assistant Principal position beginning 2027-28.
