Youth Development Artist (YoDA)

Full-time teaching artist role with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra (MYO), a youth and family development program of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra that uses string music instruction to teach life skills, reporting to the Director of MYO. Responsibilities include teaching weekly private and small-group lessons for violin, viola and cello plus a Saturday morning beginner class; leading sectional rehearsals and chamber ensemble; supporting orchestra rehearsals across MYO ensembles; preparing students for concerts, recitals, auditions and juries; differentiating instruction across ages and ability levels; developing lesson plans and curriculum; teaching classical, contemporary, jazz, popular and culturally diverse repertoire; and maintaining attendance, lesson notes and student progress records. Qualifications: bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education, Performance or related field with strong proficiency on at least one orchestral string instrument; experience mentoring students, strong classroom management, professional performance experience, ability to pass background checks. MYO season runs approximately August-May, with most teaching evenings and Saturdays; teaching may take place at Butler University, Broadway United Methodist Church and Hilbert Circle Theatre.
