Opened in 1847 on Barcelona’s La Rambla, the Gran Teatre del Liceu is Catalonia’s great opera house, rebuilt after fires in 1861 and 1994. Josep Pons led its orchestra for fourteen years; Jonathan Nott becomes music director in the 2026/27 season, with Pons as honorary music director.
