Founded in 1936 by Bronisław Huberman with many musicians fleeing Nazi Europe, the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra gave its first concert under Arturo Toscanini and is based at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv. Zubin Mehta led the orchestra for decades as music director for life. Lahav Shani has been music director since 2020.
