Founded in 1945, the Philharmonia Orchestra is one of London’s leading orchestras, resident at the Royal Festival Hall and famed for its vast recording legacy with Otto Klemperer, Herbert von Karajan and others. Its principal conductors have included Riccardo Muti, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Vladimir Ashkenazy. Santtu-Matias Rouvali has been principal conductor since 2021.
