Founded in 1548 as the Saxon court orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden is among the oldest orchestras in the world. It is the orchestra of the Semperoper and premiered many works by Wagner and Richard Strauss. Daniele Gatti has been principal conductor since 2024, succeeding Christian Thielemann.
