Founded in 1920 — its first concert conducted by Edward Elgar — the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra rose to international fame under Sir Simon Rattle and performs at Symphony Hall, Birmingham. Later music directors include Sakari Oramo, Andris Nelsons and Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla. Kazuki Yamada has been chief conductor and artistic advisor since 2023.
