Cadenza / Leadership Practice

Revenue & Advancement

Connect mission, audience, and durable revenue.

A planned advisory practice for cultural institutions aligning contributed income, earned revenue, audience development, and advancement operations around a coherent institutional strategy.

Public inquiry boundary — do not send candidate, committee, relationship, or engagement records. A conversation does not create an engagement.

Evidence before assertion

Mandate profile

Built for institutions carrying consequential leadership risk.

  • 01Institutions rebuilding contributed revenue
  • 02Organizations connecting audience and advancement work
  • 03Boards testing revenue concentration and resilience
  • 04Leadership teams reviewing earned-income strategy
  • 05Advancement functions strengthening operating discipline
  • 06Institutions preparing a campaign or growth decision

The work

Revenue architecture, not isolated tactics.

The planned practice treats revenue as one institutional system with evidence, ownership, capacity, and realistic dependencies.

01

Revenue baseline

A documented view of mix, concentration, trends, capacity, cost, constraints, and the evidence quality behind each conclusion.

02

Contributed revenue

A case, constituency, pipeline, stewardship, campaign-readiness, and advancement-capacity view tied to institutional priorities.

03

Earned revenue

A disciplined review of audiences, program economics, pricing, access, channels, partnerships, and operating implications.

04

Execution system

Named owners, measures, meeting rhythm, CRM practices, decision gates, and a realistic sequence for testing and learning.

Method / 01—04

The planned engagement method

Each stage has a named owner, evidence boundary, approval point, and stopping condition. The operating control is part of the work.

  1. 01

    Define the revenue question

Clarify sponsor, decision, timeframe, authorized evidence, market context, operating constraints, and claims boundary.

  2. 02

    Build a common baseline

Join financial, audience, fundraising, program, and capacity evidence without treating correlation as causation.

  3. 03

    Design the portfolio

Develop a bounded set of options with costs, capacity needs, dependencies, scenarios, and decisions required.

  4. 04

    Govern implementation

Install ownership, measures, experiments, review dates, stop conditions, and a durable record of what changed and why.
